What is a board certified dermatologist?

A board-certified dermatologist is a physician who has completed a 3 year dermatology residency and has passed a 2 day national examination given by the American Board of Dermatology. In contrast to several other Central Valley dermatology practices, Boswell Dermatology’s physicians are all board-certified dermatologists. They are experts in diagnosing and managing skin, hair and nail conditions. This certification and training ensures they have the knowledge and skills to provide the highest level of care for these issues.

What is a DCNP?

DCNP stands for Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner.

They are nurse practitioners who have undergone specific training and certification to focus on diagnosing and treating skin, hair, and nail conditions, similar to a dermatologist but with a nursing background.

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): They hold a master’s degree in nursing and have a national certification as an NP.
  • Dermatology Certified: They have obtained additional training and certification in dermatology by passing an exam offered by the Dermatology Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (DNPCB).

DCNPs provide a valuable service in the healthcare field, offering patients access to specialized dermatological care while potentially reducing wait times and costs compared to seeing a board-certified dermatologist.
